Discover the life of Rosalind Franklin, the scientist who helped unravel the mysteries of DNA! Part of the international best-selling Little People Big Dreams series, this colourful book was written by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara and illustrated by local illustrator and BAM favourite, Naomi Wilkinson.
Little Rosalind was born in London to a Jewish family who valued education and public service, and as she grew up her huge intellectual abilities were drawn into the study of science. At King's College London she worked on finding the structure of DNA with Maurice Williams and it were her photo that was he used to create the first ever double helix DNA model with Francis Crick. However, he did not credit her and her work went unacknowledged until after her death. Today she is remembered as one of the forgotten heroines of science and children will love discovering more about her life in this colourful book.
This series of books send an inspiring message to children of all ages, through accessible story telling and quirky illustrations. Older children will love the extra facts at the back of the book including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of Franklin’s life.
These books are aimed at ages 4-7 but we find that younger children still love to read them with an adult. They are perfect as a gift as you can build a collection with all the other inspiring lives in the series. This title was illustrated by Naomi Wilkinson, a wonderful illustrator who lives just around the corner from BAM. Check out our art section to see some of her gorgeous prints!
