Spring has finally arrived and it's time to get ready for a fun-filled Easter holiday with your family! There's something magical about stepping out of the house after a long winter of hibernation. As the sun starts to shine a little brighter and the days grow longer, it's the perfect time to explore all the wonderful events that are popping up all over Bristol.

From exciting theatre shows and workshops to adventurous trails and hunts, we've put together this handy list of the very best family-friendly events that will keep everyone happy this Easter.

1. I Want My Hat Back Trilogy

A bear has lost his hat. What if he never sees it again? WAIT! He has seen his hat.

Showcasing their trademark cardboard design, Little Angel Theatre bring you their take on Jon Klassen’s beloved books, I Want My Hat Back, This is Not My Hat and We Found A Hat. All your favourites including Bear, Little Fish and the Turtles will be making an appearance in this one-of-a-kind trilogy.

2. Still Life Drawing Activity

Still Life Drawing activity at the Arnolfini throughout the Easter holidays, Bristol

Throughout the Easter holidays there's an opportunity to try your hand at life drawing in the Arnolfini Community Room. Create your own scene using a variety of objects and props and then make use of the materials at hand to draw them in your own style. A fun activity the whole family can have a go at!

3. Easter Holiday Programme

 Children's Scrapstore Easter Holiday Programme for kids and families in Bristol

Get yourselves down to the Scrapstore for lots of fun workshops and events this Easter. Sessions include Spring Craft, Observational Drawing, Clay Animals, Flower Hats, Treasure Maps and more. Different sessions cater to different age groups, so there's something for everyone.

4. Frome Independent Market

Frome Independent Market - day out for the family in Bristol

A little further afield but always a fun day out. Lots of wonderful independent stalls, live music and delicious food. Our kids love exploring the weird and wonderful vintage stalls and having a dance at the village green disco. It can get really busy so best to do smaller areas like Catherine Hill earlier on and there's a great playground on Welshmill Lane (a short walk away) when you need to escape the hubbub of the market.

5. The Giants' Easter Hunt

Giants' Easter Hunt at Clifton Observatory, Bristol

Easter is here and the Giants have lost their Easter eggs somewhere in the Observatory! Search high and low at Clifton Observatory to find the Giants and their eggs. Answer some questions along the way to win a special prize at the end!

6. Where Does Colour Come From?

Explore natural dyes in a workshop at Arnolfini this Easter

Join our resident creatives Let’s Make Art in an exploration of colour to celebrate the joyful world of Garry Fabian Miller’s Adore exhibition. Find out where colour comes from through a range of activities including weaving, investigating natural dyes and playing with light.

7. Family Den Building Workshop

Den Building Workshop for families at Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol

Learn about knots, how to craft a fabulous den from natural materials and then enjoy a tasty snack in your new hideout. There is also a Spring Flower activity at the cemetery that day as well as storytelling during the holidays.

8. Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish

Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish theatre show at the Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol

One small step for man, one giant pile of rubbish left behind! An imaginative adaptation of Michael Foreman’s environmental tale with dancing dinosaurs, fuelled by rock’n’roll. This riotous hour, packed with signature Roustabout silliness, will have you tapping your toes from start to finish!

9. Easter Sculpture Trail

Easter Sculpture Trail at Bristol Botanic Garden

Amble through the Botanic Garden and discover art among the plant life. Mosaics, statues, sci fi metal work, ceramics, carnival faces all feature plus have a go at willow weaving, pottery, wood turning and stone carving. There will also be guided tours of the garden and a plant sale.

10. Willsbridge Duck Race

Willsbridge Mill Duck Race

Adopt a duck and cheer it on as it races down the brook at Willsbridge Mill. There will be 2 races plus a craft fair and cafe.

11. Top Secret: Museum Mission for Families

Secret Agent Spy Mission at Bristol Museums

Join Agents Kahlo and Dali on a top-secret creative mission around Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. On arrival at the museum, you’ll receive a case-file. Locate the artworks detailed in the file, identify ideas hiding in the artwork, return to HQ and share your findings with the agents while making some amazing art you can take home. A theatre/art workshop for families with children aged 6+.

12. BV Open Studios

BV Open Studios in Bedminster, Bristol

A fun chance to explore the studios and for kids to see how artists really work! With food stalls, live music and easy to nip across the road to Windmill Hill City Farm when it gets too much.
